Dry skin
Care for dry skin – oils that support the skin barrier
A dry skin naturally produces fewer lipids than are needed to keep the skin barrier intact. The result is a tight or pulled feeling, sometimes accompanied by roughness or flaking. The most effective approach is to replenish fats that support the barrier and help reduce moisture loss. Read more about how the skin barrier works in our blog on dry skin and the skin barrier.
Which oil is best for dry skin?
For dry skin, oils with a high oleic acid content are the most supportive. Avocado oil is the richest choice and is best suited as an evening oil for very dry skin. Argan oil is light to medium and versatile for both day and evening use. Rosehip oil has a light texture and is a good evening choice for skin with an uneven texture. Jojoba oil is the safest oil to start with: well tolerated and suitable for daily use.
Facial oil for dry skin: how to apply it
Always apply the oil to slightly damp skin, immediately after cleansing — not to completely dry skin. A hydrosol as an intermediate step significantly improves moisture retention: first apply Bulgarian rose water and finish with the oil while the skin is still slightly damp. Use one to three drops for the face. Read more about the daily routine in our blog on routine for dry skin.
