Mature skin
Gentle care for mature skin
Mature skin gradually changes in structure, elasticity, and moisture balance. The production of skin lipids decreases, the ability to retain moisture diminishes, and the skin barrier becomes more vulnerable. That calls for a different approach than for younger skin: fewer irritants, more support, and a simple, consistent routine. Plant oils replenish the lipids that the skin produces less of over the years and support the barrier function.
Which oil is suitable for mature skin?
Rosehip oil is chosen by many people with mature skin because of its light texture and high content of essential fatty acids. Argan oil is a little richer and versatile for use day and night on dry mature skin. Macadamia oil and baobab oil suit mature skin well thanks to their fatty acid composition.
For extra local care on dry areas, castor oil can be used, always diluted with a lighter oil because of its rich texture. A mixture of one drop of castor oil to two drops of jojoba oil is traditionally used around the eye area and as evening care for mature, dry skin.
Oil for wrinkles and mature skin: what is realistic?
Plant oils support the skin barrier and help limit moisture loss, making the skin feel smoother and more comfortable. Fine lines caused by dryness become less visible with good hydration. Structural wrinkles caused by loss of collagen and elastin do not respond to cosmetic oils. Expect supportive care, not a medical effect. The best contribution you can make every day is SPF and a gentle, consistent routine.
Hydrosols and intermediate steps
Bulgarian rose water as an intermediate step before the oil significantly improves moisture retention. Apply it to slightly damp skin after cleansing, then apply the oil while the skin is still a little moist.
