Care for oily skin – lightweight oils that respect sebum balance
Oily skin produces more sebum than needed, leading to a shiny skin surface and a higher chance of impurities. Aggressive oil-stripping backfires: it actually stimulates the skin to produce even more sebum as compensation. A gentle, consistent routine with lightweight, non-comedogenic oils gives the skin room to come back into balance. Read more about causes and care in our blog about what oily skin is.
Which oil for oily skin?
For oily skin, oils with a high linoleic acid content and a low comedogenic rating are most suitable. Jojoba oil is at the top: its wax ester composition matches human sebum and hardly clogs pores. Hemp seed oil has a high linoleic acid content and absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy feel.
A clay mask of bentonite clay or ghassoul clay once or twice a week absorbs excess sebum and cleanses the pores. Bulgarian rose water is a gentle alcohol-free toner without pore-clogging effects.
- Jojoba oil – non-comedogenic, widely tolerated
- Hemp seed oil – light, high in linoleic acid
- Bentonite clay – weekly mask for sebum absorption
- Bulgarian rose water – gentle toner
